The Joshua Tree

If U2's Where the Streets Have No Name isn't your pandemic jam you should revaluate some choices you're making.

"I want to run, I want to hide
I want to tear down the walls that hold me inside
I wanna reach out and touch the flame
Where the streets have no name
I want to feel sunlight on my face
I see that dust cloud disappear without a trace
I wanna take shelter from the poison rain
Where the streets have no name, oh oh"
Perfectly sums up how I'm feeling being cooped up in my house today.
We have surpassed 1.5 million cases globally. Numbers were released yesterday which suggest that up to 800 000 Albertans could become infected by the end of this. It's not getting any better yet which is frustrating, scary, disappointing, but also expected.
The weather is finally turning to spring which is great and means we can spend more time outside, but is also terrifying because it means everyone else will be spending more time outside too. Everything is tinged with this type of catch-22 right now and I hate it. I just want to enjoy something as it is and not have it be drenched in pandemic.
Anyways.
I've been scrambling today to catch up on the work I was unable to do yesterday morning. I recorded a lesson on the start of WW2, answered a bunch of emails, and hung out with some kids from my Connect in a Google Meet. I'm feeling productive today.
The catch to all of this productivity is that it's just magnifying how much I miss my actual job. Not my emergency teaching at home pandemic job, but my teaching in a classroom job. I miss the halls during class changes, greeting my students at the door, talking to them about school work and whatever else might be on their minds during work time. I miss eating lunch with my friends (not colleagues, but friends because that's what they are) in our little staff room on the third floor. I miss my mountain views and the bulletin board with pictures of former students and loved ones. I miss the beautiful student created artwork in my classroom.
Every. Single. Piece.
I miss it all.
This is hard.
