After a weekend of Disney singalong and Global Citizen concerts on TV (and paw patrol, always paw patrol), a little Adele was the musical palate cleanser that I needed. If we're being honest I put this record on specifically for Send My Love but I was surprised by how relatable Million Years Ago is right now.
Sometimes I just feel it's only me
Who can't stand the reflection that they see
I wish I could live a little more
Look up to the sky, not just the floor
I feel like my life is flashing by
And all I can do is watch and cry
I miss the air, I miss my friends
I miss my mother, I miss it when
Life was a party to be thrown
But that was a million years ago
The warm weather is such a welcome change. It came in this weekend in the most Calgary way possible, winter, -10, and snow one day, blue skies, +10, and sun the next and it seems as though it's here to stay. We spent a lot of time outside, finally taking down the big Christmas bobbles on our tree (the lights on the house are next), walking the dog, and just enjoying some fresh air and sunshine. It's another of those bittersweet things though, being outdoors is amazing, being confined to my community feels claustrophobic. I just wish so hard that I could spend a day in the mountains or walking by the river downtown or exploring Fish Creek.
It feels like I just typed out the words saying that we had hit 2 million cases globally and now we're about to sail past 2.5 million. I should have paid better attention in high school math when we learned about exponential growth because I cannot wrap my mind around how fast these numbers are increasing now.
Working from home is feeling a little more comfortable as this week starts. I realize that I actually do have a routine, it's just not what I'm used to. I spent some dedicated planning time last week and have a strong idea as to what I will be doing for the next 3 weeks at least so that is bringing me some peace this morning. As a teacher, I've never hated Mondays, I like reconnecting with my students after a weekend (I don't love waking up early and heading into work though), and I really like the fresh start that it brings for all of my classes. I'm trying to bring that philosophy of potential into my work from home life as well.
So far, I like what this Monday has to say for the rest of the week (except for the pandemic, obviously).
