Third day’s the charm. Or something like that.
I start and end my days the same way. A quick check of Twitter and then an anxious scouting of the Alberta Covid information page. I’m extra invested in the flight s page that lists all of the flights with Alberta passengers that have had positive results for the virus.

Today has been good though!
A week ago was not quite like this.
We left on Thursday for a short family trip to Vancouver. We knew about the potential for infection but all the information reassured us that Canada was low-risk and domestic travel would still be safe. The husband and I were going to see a live recording of one of our favourite podcasts, my brother came along to babysit for our night out, and my Aunt came from Vancouver Island to visit. We had tickets to see the Whitecaps play on Saturday and had lots of other plans.
When we got on the plane in Calgary everything was fine. By the time we landed in Vancouver all the professional sports leagues had been cancelled. So much for those tickets. Our podcast was cancelled just a couple of hours before it was set to start but other than those events everything else was still up and running. We visited a very quiet Vancouver Aquarium, went to an eerily empty Granville Island, and then spent a few minutes at Kitsilano Beach before agreeing that it was disturbingly busy and we should find somewhere less crowded to spend our last day. When we were getting ready to board our flight home there were rumours about schools being closed but it wasn’t until we landed in Calgary that classes were officially cancelled. Talk about an anxious flight.
We ended up having a great weekend. I’m glad we were able to sneak away before things became a little more precarious. Had we known what was coming when we were packing last Wednesday night we likely would have cancelled things. How were we to know how fast it would all change though?
So now we check the flights.
Today has been good though!
It’s officially spring break. I caught up on some much needed marking and attended another (of what I’m sure will be many) online staff meeting. Get to work is so much easier when the commute is 20 seconds instead of 45 minutes.
My silver lining for the day was enjoying my breakfast at the table instead of in the car.
Childcare today has been provided by Moana. Disney+ is proving to be a sound investment.
I’ve deliberately taken a break from the global pandemic news today. A short breakdown last night let me know that I need to spend some time distancing myself daily. It’s almost always totally fine but then there’s a few minutes where things get really scary.
The break today has helped. Everything is ok right now.
Remember to keep your distance and wash those hands.
