Cathy in Winnipeg

Cathy is my Dad’s cousin in Winnipeg. Here’s what she’s seeing in her community. Andrew, Bryan, and Jill are her kids who are around my age.

“ Hi Claire, there are more walkers, less car traffic, more shoppers as of 2 days ago, (Bryan and Jill are shopping for us now), not much toilet paper available. Many stores most businesses have closed due to reduction in customers . Jill’s -Brandon and (Andrew’s  Regina)uni classes are online. Chris is rehabbing a double knee replacement from 2 wks ago. I am teaching in a support position from home. My work will be helping the gr 4 team with feedback to their students online on the Seesaw app and also developing a solids, liquids and Gases unit with the gr 2 team. Bryan (paramedic) said he and partner have had to wear full protective gear when picking up people with symptoms or travel history. One was a little girl with high temp and respiratory symptoms. She must have been scared of them in their gear! Grandpa is in quarantine in his assisted living facility. We took cookies over but were not able to see him. Fortunately he has a girlfriend in the facility but he did say some of the residents are getting really cranky. Bryan’s wife(social worker) works with mothers who have had their children taken away due to alcoholism , they are still seeing clients but are doing what they can over the phone. Andrew’s fiancé (rheumatologist/internal med specialist) is seeing many immunocompromised people which is a huge worry as they are much more at risk for COVID-19. She is exhausted and stressed and her hands are on fire from so much hand washing. Jill’s boyfriend is working out of town installing solar panels. His work is unaffected.
We are convinced that this was the year the Jets would have won the Stanley cup!
We  hope the numbers stay low and hope the measures taken will keep everyone safe! There is a feeling that things will never be the same as they were before. Take care”
