Rain
No vinyl today - mostly because of a migraine that's making my right eyeball feel like it's about to explode. I think it's the pressure from all the rain we're getting but it could also be anxiety fuelled insomnia related.
My mental health has always fluctuate between totally fine and no problems to almost bad enough that I might mention it to my family doctor. So it's manageable and I am lucky - it doesn't make it any easier to get to sleep.
I also do myself no favours by reading articles about a potential second, more lethal wave hitting in September.
It's been a minute since I last posted. So I wanted to talk about last Thursday today... I went to school. I had to do some recordings for our grad events and that required me to be in the building.
IT WAS THE BEST.
I walked into my classroom and instantly felt like myself again. I felt intelligent, personable, funny - like all the best parts of me were just there waiting. I got to visit (distantly) with some really great friends - I am so lucky to work with people who are truly my friends and not just my colleagues.
The building was uncomfortably clean. We usually come back to floors that have been washed and waxed after Spring Break but the whole building was sparkling in the same novel way that post-break floors do. It was weird. It was also notably silent. A school is truly missing its soul by not being filled with kids.
In corona news, we've passed 5 million cases globally. The border with the US is staying closed another 30 days. Alberta has begun to reopen, but not Calgary - we're still in isolation for a few more days. Numbers have been declining steadily - only 19 new cases yesterday in the province, so hope is on the horizon.
Yesterday I got sick of looking at my main floor (kitchen, dining, living, all one long room) and trying to think of a way to make it more functional so I moved everything. I love it. I set up my papasan chair (the first piece of furniture I ever bought myself, I remember saving money up in university so I could splurge on it) in the window and have spent most of the day sitting, reading, working, and watching the rain.
I'm excited to see what comes after the rain. I'm dreaming of green grass and fresh lilacs.
